TY! I thought I was losing my mind.
I had two of my characters have issue with this bug, and have reported it as such. I have seen the delay in cape and subsequently the delay in appearing in the guild list. I have also seen the bright yellow guild tag on a fellow guildie not show on his name tag until about 2 mins into the zone.
This was not an issue for me until yesterday. I assume it may have been introduced with the cape toggle feature and perhaps irritated with the last update.
Either way, at least I now know I'm not alone on this subject and hopefully Anet has been fully notified.

This bug may have been revived with the latest update, but has no direct relation to the toggle cape option.
The first time this bug was seen was back in the beta weekends, it also briefly appeared at least once since release. I haven’t toggled off my cape and yet I was in and out of the guild constantly yesterday, it seems to trigger most of the times when you map somewhere.

ahh yes, I remember those reports being posted now. It does sound like a database server is ailing then. I still wouldn't rule out the toggle feature as what may have triggered it again. That would be tied to that same guild database would it not?
Either way, its annoying, its happening more frequently now to a lot of other people and maybe make it easier for Anet to find it and repair it.
I'm just relieved it is widespread, as my guildies had me convinced it was just me.

I like how obvious it is that nobody has any idea what they are talking about.
The Cape toggle is not just a "cosmetic" thing....Toggling it on/off queries the database, any time a database is queried for information a problem can occur. If they have their checksets setup backwards it's quite possible that the cape toggle could cause you to drop from your guild. Just because you experienced the problem before the update doesn't mean that the Cape Toggle didn't further perpetuate the problem.

|
In short... no.
The long answer is A.net are most likely aware of the issue due to these threads appearing on all the forums. Bugs take time to fix, then they take time to test to make sure they workand don't break something else.
No one has heared anything so best to give it some time, A.net patch mostly on Wednesdays, unless there is a major bug.
In the meantime if the game is unplayable there are plenty of other games for you to try?

Good idea, time to break out the credit card. However, that isn't what I said.

Suggesting someone to leave on the note of being unsatisfied with the game is the same as telling them to never come back.

I wrote this to Anet Support::
Quote:
Are you aware that after the latest patch, that most, if not all, of the Guild Wars community has been experiencing random drops from their guild!?
This occurs after loadups entering/exiting towns, starting a PvP match, etc etc. A person will lose their guild membership status, and it is then fixed upon a fresh loadup btween zones.
This needs to be fixed ASAP. The GW community cannot be expected to play with this kind of bug present. This bug prevents guilds from functioning as they should and heavily hurts the PvP community as a whole for obvious reasons!
PLEASE PLEASE work on this problem ASAP! THANKS!!

They promptly responded, 2 hours later::

Typically, you'll notice this after an update. Due to the amount of players exiting and logging back in at the same time, occasionally the servers responsible for keeping track of your guild will get a little busier than normal and it may take a few moments for your particular character to update. This should fix itself very soon.
Also, try creating a new character to see if that character is in the guild or if it can be re-invited. If these measures do not work, please be patient as we work to fix this issue.
Please let us know if this does not resolve itself within a few hours. If you have any further questions please let us know and we will gladly assist you!
Kind regards,
The Guild Wars Support Team
We will assume your issue has been resolved if we do not hear from you within 72 hours.

So i think in other words, just give it time. Either it wil self fix soon, or they are currently fixing on a perma solution!

I didn't get that message at all in his post. What I got was if you're frustrated and can't play, take a short break and play something else for a bit. There's nothing wrong with taking a break from a game you play all of the time.
I love how rumors get started and then people come up with ideas to support crazy ideas to invent an explanation to make themselves feel better.
Could cape toggling be the problem? Yes.
Could cape toggling have nothing to do with the problem? Yes
Could the problem be something we know nothing about because we aren't privy to the code? Hell Yes!
Obviously something recently has affected how the servers are talking. It's fairly obvious that ANet knows there's a problem. Like some of the wiser posters have stated, bugs take time to specifically locate, fix, test and implement.

No... I never said that at all. Taking time off is never a bad thing, people seem to forget there are other games other then Guild Wars to play

Why bother when the last memory of the game is problems. It becomes worse when problems become the normal part of the game after every patch. Granted they arent the same style of problems ala breaking bards in EQ or infliltrators in PS, but im sure you get the idea now. Taking time off because the gameplay got a little stale is a valid suggestion. Hiding from the game while it becomes stressful due to technical issues that shouldnt exist is not. There is a large difference between the two situations.

Not to be parnoid but i wonder if this bug can accidently remove you from a guild? I personally been experiencing this lot lately. It usually take 4 or 5 minutes before the server kicks in and bring by my cape and guild. And i notice that when you zone into new areas (such as towns or outposts) you would lose your cape for a while before server give it back to you.

No since the update, it was like that all of Sunday.
Lots of people I know had the same thing.
So yeah no cape has nothing to do with it.
But to say the least, after the option for cape toggle I would gladly leave my guild if they take that option off.
Armor looks so much better without the stupid cape.
